Christmas is just around the corner, and we all know them: the classics among client gifts. Gingerbread that turns rock-hard within two days. Mulled wine you secretly hope no one will actually drink. Or pens that reliably give up after three signatures.
But why do we keep doing the same thing every year?
The holiday season is really about warmth, kindness, and small gestures that mean something.
So a while ago, we asked ourselves: Surely there must be a better way!
Instead of sugary treats, knick-knacks, and office clutter, we’ve been giving very different kinds of gifts on behalf of our clients in recent years—gifts that warm hearts a bit more than a bag of Christmas cookies:
For example, funding essential dental and hoof care for a neglected horse through the organisation “Die Pferdeklappe,” instead of a gift basket no one touches.
Or donating to Dr. Alexismission to provide medical treatment for a street dog—much better than a bottle of mulled wine that gathers dust in someone’s kitchen.
Or sponsoring chickens or goats for a family in Africa through Oxfam, helping them build a small, stable source of income—definitely more impactful than your average holiday card.
We once even planted a tree for every client. A gift that puts down roots long before you can say “Merry Christmas.”
And why stop there?
You could spend a day collecting trash with clients, support a local children’s project, or provide a classroom with learning materials. The possibilities are endless—and often far more meaningful than the tenth chocolate Santa.
Because at the end of the day, it’s about giving something that lasts.
Something that truly benefits people, animals, or the environment.
Maybe this year is the perfect moment to rethink client gifts:
Away from “just something” and toward “something that actually means something.” 💚
